Flash+Mobile = Nexus FTW!!

Flash+Mobile = Nexus FTW!!

Another revolution in smart phones by the biggest revolution in Web history: Google’s Nexus One. Web meets phone… again. (Nexus One website)

Google released the Nexus One last week. The most powerful and advanced HTC handset with the latest 2.1 release of Android OS. The reviews have been amazing. Tech media has given this device just as much, if not more attention than they did the first iPhone. We at nothingGrinder are extremely happy about this for the obvious Flash reasons and look forward to the Flash 10.1 player that will be running on this device mid 2010! (Flash 10.1 running on Nexus One)

What does this mean for the nGn Platform?

nGn is a Flash based website building platform and service. Being Flash based allows us much more flexibility  across browsers, platforms and screen scalability.

nGn – still in its infancy, is able to deliver the right User Interface to the appropriate device or platform. For example, when you access an nGn website via iPhone, you will see an iPhone specific version of the site. Currently, this iPhone or Android targeted site will not be displayed in Flash.

Due to iPhone and the Android’s current lack of Flash capabilities, we are forced to limit sites built with our platform on mobile devices using HTML and JavaScript. This is not something we have done by choice but out of necessity. Adobe’s latest attempt at alleviating this obstacle has been its mission to bring Flash capability to every device with a screen through The Open Screen Project which includes partnerships with Blackberry, Nvidia, Qualcomm and Google. Whilst intending to get around Apple’s boycott of these goals by creating an iPhone application compiler into its eminent release of CS5. However, it is highly unlikely that this compiler will produce anything light enough to be worth downloading from the App Store in its first iteration.

Given Palm Pre’s recent press follies – our hopes for that being a widely spread Flash capable mobile has dwindled. But, The Nexus One, and its Full Flash browser with Snap Dragon processor will completely change the mobile web experience. nGn will be able to display its standard, fully interactive, touch screen friendly Flash websites without any hassle!

Flash Player 10.1 and the current driving initiative powered by Google and Adobe has opened the doors to unsurpassed User Experience. Multi-touch, (Very Impressive demo here) accelerometer, and practially all iPhone features are available in the latest release of Flash Player 10.1. Though it is still in BETA, this software might take some time to reach its full potential, but like originally stated in Aaron Franco’s post about Adobe Flash on the iPhone, this software will eventually stabilize. Which goes to show why Apple is extremely hesitant to let Flash Applications onto it’s touch screen devices whilst Google is more than happy to let Adobe Flash take the stage.

[...] What I predict is a new line of Laptops that still have their clamshell design but instead of keyboards with moving parts, there will be a touch screen interface representing a keyboard that you can manipulate to perform actions. Eventually changing the concept of ‘quick keys’ and controls for Computer Aided Design (CAD), Video Editing & Website design/development ultimately making common tasks easier to do. This could feature heavily into what Adobe is attempting to release with Flash 10.1 written about in an earlier post here. [...]
