We’ve recently been asked this question by people through our various Social Networks so I thought I’d set the record straight and let people know what we’re all about.
nothingGrinder as a name was found by me (Gabriel Ortiz) in a children’s math book a couple of weeks after Aaron Franco announced to me that we would start a company instead of just graduating and sorting ourselves out with jobs. We graduated College, each with an Avante Garde Cinema degree. I had been accepted to Edinburgh College of Art to attend an Animation Masters Course and Aaron had been accepted to assume a position as an English Teacher in Tokyo. Our plan was to learn about the media market, acquire business contacts in the UK and in Japan and create a company that did something media oriented. The only thing we were completely sure about was that it would be called nothingGrinder.
A lot of stuff has happened in the 7 years leading up to now, but what has taken shape is truly organic and imaginative. The product we have produced is completely in line with what we thought our company would acheive since we took our first website contract back in 2002. Our aim was to make websites, not just our websites, not just some websites, but all websites into things of beauty. As dogmatic as that may sound, it was our aim from the beginning. The reason we called ourselves nothingGrinder in the first place is because when you sit back and think about it – that is exactly what a computer is: A tool that grinds and grinds away but does absolutely nothing. And in a sort of existential way that is what all humans are doing – but in a more pragmatic Web 2.0 way our nothingGrinder does everything.
We have constructed a Content Management platform that is completely made out of video, but to look at the demo (1) (2) (3) (4) (5), you wouldn’t think it. At present, it looks like a plain old ordinary website and it works like one too. And that is exactly the point. We have created a system with which you can make magic simply. That’s why we’re so special. With our system you can design your website with animated content and stunning video and it can still be completely interactive. And we’re not talking video embedded in a page so that you hit play and watch. We’re talking full screen animated websites and/or full screen video websites that work like regular websites. So link a specific part of an interactive video to your pal or bookmark it for yourself to view later. And if you’re away from a computer and you want to view your website on a mobile device (1) (2) – we’ve got that covered too. All content on a nothingGrinder website is not only completely transparent to all devices, but also to all search engines. On top of all that, all content uploaded to a website built on the nothingGrinder platform can be distributed to Social Media – Such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Blogs and the many Social Services Google Provides.
